great watch for kids, By
Mom’s opinion (Michigan) – See all my reviews
This review is from: Timex Kids’ T71962 IronKids Digital Fast Wrap Blue Watch (Watch)
My son received this watch for his 8th birthday last September. He has worn it every single day since receiving it and it still works great. He only takes it off for showers and swimming and then he puts it right back on. The only problem is that he is growing so much, the wristband of the watch is now getting a bit tight on his wrist.

This review is from: Timex Kids’ T71962 IronKids Digital Fast Wrap Blue Watch (Watch)
My boy received Timex Ironkids watch as a Christmas present last year. He liked it very much but the watch plastic part was broken in 7 months. So I ordered a replacement from Amazon. Several months later, the watch freezes up. I checked it and found three out of four buttons don’t bounce back after pressing them.

I have actaully had two so far. First one just froze about 8 days after my son received it. Amazon was excellent and replaced it. But now after about 4 weeks the elastic part of the band is all stretched out of space. Seems to be a real low build qaulity on this watch. |

Poser 9 includes more features than ever before:
Real-time OpenGL Scene Preview
With Poser 9′s OpenGL improvements, you’ll see accurate, real-time previews of Spot, Point, Infinite and IBL (Image Based Lights) Lights, Shadows, with Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, Normal Maps and Back Facing Polygons. The Light Properties control allows the user to toggle specific lights to preview in the scene, with accumulated brightness for each selected light. MIP Map support improves performance when previewing large textures. Our OpenGL hardware improvements preview textures more efficiently, with reliable onscreen display of lights, shadows, and color, for smarter, quicker interactive scene creation.
Subsurface Scattering
Skin, wax, and marble are just some of the materials that are translucent when struck by light. To recreate this subtle yet crucial effect when rendering these materials in Poser, we’ve incorporated a set of easy to configure Subsurface Scattering Material Nodes. New Nodes include Subsurface Skin, Custom Scatter, and basic Scatter. The Scatter Node includes a number of optimized pre-sets for Skin, Marble, Milk, Fruit and Vegetables. With Poser’s new Subsurface Material nodes, you’ll transform your scenes into rendered masterpieces with lifelike translucent surfaces.
Rendering Performance Improvements
Poser’s FireFly Rendering Engine keeps getting better with numerous improvements in reflections, transparencies, depth of field and 3D motion blur quality, netting visibly smoother results without significantly impacting render times. We’ve invested time in Indirect Lighting (IDL) which now can be combined with Ambient Occlusion (AO), and is faster when rendering transparency. We’ve also enabled Light Emitting Objects which are invisible in final renderings yet contribute indirect illumination to the scene. In addition to our new Subsurface Scattering Nodes, we’ve included a new Custom Scatter Node to support effects such as bioluminescent skin.
Weight Map Rigging
High-end professional 3D applications like 3ds Max and Maya have set the standard for vertex Weight Map Rigging, and now both Poser provides the most open vertex Weight Mapping support available. Weight Map Rigging offers several benefits including smoother bending folds and bulges with vertex by vertex control over every bend or bulge. Weight Maps can be added to any joint bend, to twist and scaling channels and can be used to control bulges. Plus Poser takes the standard of Weight Map Rigging several steps further with support for Hybrid Joint Rigging (combining traditional Poser Sphere/Capsule Zones with Weight Maps), using either single mesh geometry or traditionally grouped geometry, and enables Weight Maps or zones to affect any number of body parts beyond the current joint. Poser’s new Weight Map Rigging provides a platform that will support third party figures that use Weight Mapping, by expanding the open, well documented and easily editable Poser PZ3 file format, to encourage creativity and user driven enhancements to Poser figures.
Grouping Objects
Need a way to move, scale or hide a bunch of objects in a Poser scene, at the same time? Now you can simply add any number of scene elements, from figures and props to lights, into a Grouping Object. They can be moved, rotated, scaled and animated or even hidden and revealed. Create multiple Grouping Objects to hold different areas of a scene, or related props and figures. Adding selected scene elements into any Grouping Object is easy using our powerful new Context Menu controls. This significant new feature will change how you manage your scenes, providing you plenty of control over whole groups of objects in that scene.
Expanded Context Menus
Sometimes, it’s the simple things that make the biggest difference. Poser’s expanded Context Menus will vastly improve interaction and scene creation, and change the way you work with Poser forever. Six unique Context Menus have been developed for Figures, Actors, Objects, Lights, Cameras and Backgrounds to provide quick access to the most useful menu operations including selecting, toggling IK on/off, copying symmetry in poses, pointing lights, conforming clothing, setting parenting, changing light types, and even hiding/revealing all items in a Grouping Object. Once you start using Poser’s new Context Menus, you’ll enjoy working and playing with Poser all over again.
Full Scene Category in Library
In the past, if you wanted to re-use a Poser scene with that perfect environment settings, lights, cameras, props and dependencies and even render settings, you had to build it, save it, then find and import it. With the new Scene Category in the Library you simply add that full Poser scene with lights, cameras, all props and figures in place, and with all dependencies right into the Library. From there your new scenes can be dragged directly from the Library into the Poser workspace. For Poser content developers this new feature will enable you to deliver fully constructed scenes with dependencies and optimal render settings that require less user support and are far easier to use.
Multi-select Drag and Drop Library Support
When we introduced Drag and Drop support in Poser’s Library, our users found it so much easier to apply materials, or conform clothing, or drop a pose right onto a figure. With the Library’s new Multi-select feature, you’ll be able to select several items of clothing and drag them right onto a figure and auto-conform them in one step. But it gets even better when working with multiple categories of items in your Favorites; Multi-select a hairstyle, several clothing items and a pose all at once, then click and drag them right onto your target figure. Poser will automatically apply the items. It doesn’t get much easier. Within the Library, you’ll be able to drag and drop items from folder to folder making it easy to reorganize your Content.
Morphing Tool Tablet Support
If you own a Wacom pressure sensitive tablet, Poser is going to make you a very happy camper. We’ve engineered Wacom tablet support into the Morph Tool so you can have much finer control when creating morphs. Vary brush strength with pressure for any brush size you’ve set. The Morph Tool is powerful, but with tablet support, it’s gotten even better. The new ‘Flatten’ option for Morphing Tool Create mode moves points toward a “best fit” plane determined by the affected vertices.
Constraint Channels and Constraint Objects
For our animators that have been looking for a way to animate a ball being throw or caught, we’ve introduced Constraint Channels and Objects. Basically, the Constraint Object is an animatable handle for an object that will allow you to parent it to a figure’s hand as it winds up for the throw, and then have the object leave the hand and fly through the air as if it’s being thrown. Constraints are a simple to use feature that will permit all kinds of cool animation effects.
Light Emitting Objects
We changed the face of rendering in Poser when we introduced Indirect Lighting (IDL). Poser users quickly discovered that, with high ambient values to cast light that with a few tweaks, they could open up a huge array of lighting effects. Now you can create Light Emitters; toggle off visibility in rendering for objects, yet still enable them to cast light. Build light domes, environment domes and large area lights to cast ambient light without being rendered in the scene. Combined with our new Poser Scene Library category, this feature will be a great way to deliver a fully lit IDL environment.
Frame Selected Object
In complex scenes it can be a little challenging to keep your camera focused on an area that you’re working on using Poser’s original camera controls. To help out, we’ve introduced the Frame Selected Object Camera. With the click of a button, your current camera will zoom in on the selected object, allowing you take a closer look at exactly where you’re working on. This makes it easier to navigate in and out of your deep scenes and saves you time when creating them.
Orbit Selected Object Mode
Poser also includes a new mode as a companion feature to the new Frame Selected Object Camera. Simply toggle on the Orbit Selected mode and your current camera will rotate around the center point of the currently selected object. This makes it easier to focus on a selected element, and view it from every direction by spinning Camera trackball controls.
Faster Dynamic Hair
Our engineers spent time under the hood to speed up Dynamic Hair. Now Poser’s powerful Dynamic Hair calculates collisions faster and renders it faster as well.
Pre-render Texture Caching
We’ve heard your requests for faster pre-render texture handling and delivered two new methods that will save time the minute you press that Render Now button. Poser now preprocesses all scene textures in the background making use of your multicore processor, in prep for that first render, and can cache those textures session to session if you desire. Choose between traditional and the new Crisp’ texture filtering options.
Python 2.7 Support
Poser keeps improving and so does Python. We now provide Python 2.7 support to take full advantage of improvements to the scripting language.
Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Support
Poser 9 is now fully Cocoa based and supported on Apple’s latest OS X 10.7 Lion.
Why use Poser 9?
Creating 3D illustrations that include people or digital characters is time-consuming and hard.
Designers and artists want to create art and animations with 3D characters, without having to create those 3D characters from scratch. We don’t blame you! That’s why Poser and Poser Pro come with everything you need to quickly add life to your project.
Poser lets you focus on the story you want to tell by freeing you from having to build the actors and props in your story. Quickly customize and pose your characters on the stage, set up the scene with props, backgrounds and architectural elements to support that story and then create your final 3D art and animations.
Getting the right lighting effects on figures and objects is difficult.
We changed the face of rendering in Poser when we introduced Indirect Lighting (IDL). And it became obvious when Poser users discovered that IDL enabled objects with high ambient values to cast light that with a few tweaks we could open up a huge array of lighting effects.
Poser 9′s improved Firefly render engine now supports Indirect Lighting with Irradiance Caching for Global Illumination effects and even supports rendering with Ambient Occlusion. New Shader nodes enable Subsurface Scattering for luminescent skin tones and Custom Scattering for bioluminescent effects. Poser’s physically correct light fall-off produces more photo-real final renderings.
Putting actual people into dangerous, inaccessible or imaginary places to serve as a model for digital image or video creation isn’t possible or practical.
Take crime scene recreation for example: you need an imaginary 3D world where you can place all the suspects, victims, weapons, explosions, and more and play out their interactions without anyone getting hurt. In fact, Poser Pro is a critical tool used by the production crew for the television drama Bones. They use it weekly to pose and animate their re-enactments–check out this video straight from one of their episodes.
Industrial and architectural designers, medical illustrators, product engineers and graphic artists often need virtual humans to interact with a design, to convey a sense of scale or draw attention to a feature in a designed product. Poser lets you work with 3D actors in scenes that would be impossible to duplicate in the real world. Historic scenes, imaginary or fantasy scenes, sci-fi and superhero scenes are easy to create in Poser, so you can let your imagination run wild and build exactly the world you want, and populate that world with 3D characters.
At your fingers tips is a huge library of included ready-to-pose and easy-to-customize characters with clothing and props that will fit into almost any scene you can imagine. Customize those figures with poses, expressions and face room morphs and set-up cameras and lights to support any perspective, point of view or lighting condition.

For Mac Users: Works great on Mac, Faster renders and yes…you can use your older Poser libraries with this latest version, By
This review is from: Poser 9 (Software)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What’s this?)
As a longtime user of Poser software, using it on PC and then on Mac, my last purchase was Poser 6. I figured that I had no need to upgrade since 6 was pretty solid for what I needed to create and for the next few years, I continued to use the software until June 2011 when I upgraded to Mac OS 10.7 Lion and realized, a lot of the older software would no longer work with Lion. So, suffice to say…I was S.O.o.L. But with the announcement of the release of Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012 and the fact that these will work with OS 10.7 Lion was big for me. Also, Poser 9 comes with both the Windows and Mac version which is a plus. But my biggest concern was…after spending so much money on Poser characters, clothing and accessories, I hope it works with this latest version of the software. I skipped Poser 7 & 8 and there wasn’t much information online for those who use Poser on a Mac. So, now that I have tested this, hopefully I can help other Mac users who are considering purchasing this software. I. Is this software for you? First, to keep things basic for those not familiar with the software. Poser is a 3D software which you can model a character (human/animal/monster, etc.), environment, prop, have control over their movements and pose them anyway you want. There are websites where you can purchase models, clothing, props, environments, etc. or if you are savvy…you can design them and sell them on various marketplace online. As a graphic designer, I have used Poser for posters, commercial ads and I have known people to use Poser in addition with other software to create book covers, posters, ads, videos, etc. The difficulty of having to create to program and create the model of the character, clothing, etc. is not there because everything is presented to you as is. Everything is there for you to manipulate. So, you can select a variety of models that come with the program or purchase a character. Want to create a fairy, a zombie, a soldier, a knight, a superhero, a fashion model, etc. The sky is the limit…it all comes down to your creativity. You can pose them from everything to bending their legs, arms, moving their neck, eyes, fingers, enhancing their bodies, etc. You have control! Is there a caveat of using the software? The main caveat is you need to purchase things online. So, if you want a fairy, you need to buy the clothing, the wings, the hair, the props, the backgrounds, etc. But of course, the more you use the software, you will want to create other types of characters requiring more clothing, hair, use another model, etc. That cost money. Otherwise, if you are great with software like Adobe PhotoShop, then you can create your character and then pretty much digitally create things on your own. If you are great with other 3D software and no how to model, then you can create things for your character and go even further with your creation. But with that being said, like any video editor who needs to purchase plug-ins or those needing to add to their existing software for audio or video, those plug-ins cost hundreds dollars and it adds up. With Poser, you can buy bundles under 0 and many sites offer a lot of freebees as well. So, is this software for you? If what I mentioned interests you, then yes. It’s important to know that there is Poser 9 and the more powerful (and more expensive) Poser Pro 12 (which has more features) that allow exporting your characters into 3DS Max, Maya, LightWave 3D and CINEMA 4D. Also, better weight mapping and joint system (so, you have control over every bend and bulge) and is 64-bit native. If you want to create characters off the bat and no need for the extra power of Power Pro, Poser 9 is all you need and it is just as possible! II. Poser 9 – So, What’s New? * Comes with software for MAC/PC III. INSTALLATION I installed Poser 9 on an older iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2. The only thing that I didn’t like about the installation is that with my previous Poser, I can select the harddrive to install. I like to keep Poser on an external drive. But couldn’t do that. The installation took about 35-40 minutes as there is a lot to install with this latest software. IV. USING POSER 9 I was happy to see the new interface improvements (remember, my last software was Poser 6) and seeing everything via tabs on top, so I can go from my Poser…

Poser ++,
This review is from: Poser 9 (Software)
I have had the opportunity to use both Pro 2012 and 9 and I can say that they both have blown me away. I have been a poser user since version 2, and I can’t think of a version change that has included so much! The SSS and Weight Mapping alone are worth the price of admission… not to mention the UI improvements, Speed improvements, changes to the IDL and Light Casting Objects, the list goes on. If you are into Poser, you will not regret this upgrade. If you are new to Poser and 3D… now is the time to get on board!

Better, or is it?, By
This review is from: Poser 9 (Software)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What’s this?)
This is the same Poser you know and love with a few upgrades to make renders look even better. Compared to Poser Debut, this is definitely an upgrade, but anyone new to Poser should definitely stick to Poser Debut. The upgrades are really sort of minor ones but definitely noticeable. The work-area previews are substantially improved to give a better idea of how a scene will render. The subsurface scattering looks great along with indirect lighting; they’re great additions that produce images in need of less overall post-work. Unfortunately, the current release of Poser and PoserPro do not support the next-generation models currently being released by Daz3D. They can be exported from DAZ Studio, but it’s a tedious workaround, and Smith Micro has no current plans to support them. I think the real question users need to ask themselves right now is whether to stick with Smith Micro and hope they get on board with the next generation of character design or to shift over to DAZ Studio for the Genesis models. I prefer the Poser interface, and the software itself renders beautifully. But unless Smith Micro updates their software to fix its compatibility issues with the Victoria 5 and Genesis figures, Poser 9 may very well be the last version I use. |

One of the “Alarming” at first, but practical ways to help your baby..,
This review is from: The Tired Parent! The Ultimate Supermarket Guide for Toddler Snacks – Healthy Eating for Children Without Tons of Sugar! (Kindle Edition)
This was an amazing book: the author is an MD, and points out that even SHE didn’t realize how much sugar baby food products were pumping into her child, the affects it was taking on her child, and the potential effects on children, generally. She goes into helpful details on the different kinds of sugar there are, the difference between them, and the impact they can have. It’s not just theoretical, though: the author goes on to generate a thorough list of products with sugars, and the classes of products that go into a truly healthy diet. I too am an MD, and found this book to be extremely helpful, revealing details that I assumed I had a complete understanding of (certainly enough to feed children appropriately). But just as she described her own enlightenment, the reader comes to understand the solid value of this book. It’s a “must have” for anyone with kids, or working with kidsat any age. Grownups will benefit from it as well. Barry Sloan D.O. I love this!,

Great hat!,

This review is from: Outdoor Research Kids’ Rambler Sombrero Sun Hat (Apparel)
I have two of these hats in red for my two boys ages 2 & 3. The boys like the hats and they look great. Everywhere we go they get compliments and people ask me where I got the hats. They offer really good sun coverage and fit perfectly because they’re adjustable. The chin strap is great for holding them on, and it has a release latch so the strap will come off if it gets caught to prevent choking. The first time I ordered the hats I got large because I tried measuring my sons’ heads to determine the size. The hats were enormous. I returned them for medium and that is perfect. Large is more for a child 7+, as it turns out. I also originally ordered the beige and got red when I reordered because they didn’t have 2 hats in beige and I needed them quickly. I was worried they would look odd on boys, but I think they look really good. The shade of red is almost orange-red or brick red – it’s not girly at all. I’ve also discovered the advantage that my kids are easy to spot in their red hats when we’re out and about. I can’t say enough good things about this hat and would recommend it for any outdoor purpose.

Please remember the front wheel does not swivel, By
This review is from: BOB Sport Utility Single Stroller, Orange (Baby Product)
The front wheel does not swivel, so if you want to run and turn, you have to lean the stroller back. The Revolution swivels its front wheel.

Better than the last model!, By
This review is from: BOB Sport Utility Single Stroller, Blue (Baby Product)
I have the past year’s addition BOB single stroller and had a baby shower for a friend and we all chipped in and I ordered this stroller for her. We assembled it (stuck the wheels on in 1 minute using quick release) and I was able to see right away how much better this model is than my BOB single stroller. The fabric is tougher and more resistant to staining. The seat back and foot rest has more padding and it looks like the padding will allow more air to circulate behind the child’s back on hot days. The canopy has more coverage, goes lower. The car seat adapter, sold separately, snaps in and out in 2 seconds. The seat reclines deeper than the previous model. The footrest is more durable for toddler kicking and squirming. The jog strap has a buckle so when you fold the stroller, you can lock it closed. The previous model strap has velcro and isn’t so secure. This stroller is seriously durable and you will be able to resell it on Craigslist for at least 0 or more! So it is definitely worth the investment. I’ve owned a lot of stroller brands and the BOB is the best around!

Indeed, the SUV of strollers!, By
This review is from: BOB Sport Utility Single Stroller, Blue (Baby Product)
If you are a mountain bike rather than racing bike kinda person, then this stroller is for you!! Here’s what I love about it: The only thing I don’t really like about it that it is bulky when folded and occupies most of the room in the trunk. If that’s not an issue, then you’ve got yourself a really, really fabulous jogging stroller. |

The Only Child: How to Survive Being One
Addressing the advantages and disadvantages of being an only child, this consideration discusses how growing up in a single-child family affects a child’s attitudes, relationships, and future. The study draws on the experiences of a wide range of children without siblings, exploring the difficulties they are faced with and how, as adults, they have learned to cope with these problems. At a time when couples are increasingly limiting their families to one son or daughter, this survey answers a pressing and growing need, making it essential for any parent or partner of an only child.

Highly recommended reading for any only child.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Only Child: How to Survive Being One (Paperback)
I first read this book several years ago and I still find myself referring to it periodically. As a 33 year old only child, I too identified with many of the comments and situations related by the interviewees. It was a relief to find out that not only were my responses to life ‘normal’ but they were shared by many others. Some of their comments were word for word statements of things I had myself said in the past. This book gives a very good insight into how only children respond and react to their envirnonment and how this may differ from those who were raised with siblings. While it may be lacking a little in practical information for parents and partners of only children, (although there are chapters dealing with this), it is nevertheless an excellent study of the experiences of only children and is highly recommended reading for any only child and those wanting to understand how they ‘tick’.

Excellent and Perceptive,
By A Customer
This review is from: Only Child: How to Survive Being One (Paperback)
I am a 31-year old only child, and found this book extremely perceptive and accurate. Of course, not everything is going to fit all only children’s experiences, but I could have written 80-90% of the quotes written by the interviewees. It may be hard for parents and friends of only children to read this book, because it is one of the only books on only children that does not make us out to be outcasts or spoiled brats. It highlights and explains our need for space, independence, and attributes a lot of our needs to our upbringing, which often times, results in our family members becoming defensive, etc. As an only child, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to really understand us.

Interesting, Information but negative., By
gdyer (Scotland) – See all my reviews
This review is from: Only Child: How to Survive Being One (Paperback)
I read this book with the hope of gaining an insight into how being an "only" would affect my daughter. This was the wrong book to buy. It was very negative and the subjects blamed everything that went wrong in their lives on being an only child. It is well written and obviously well researched but I would rather have seen a more balanced approach which highlighted as much of the good as it did the bad |

I love it and so does my daughter.,
This review is from: Graco Deluxe Stylus Travel System Stroller – Ben (Baby Product)
I got this as a gift for our first child. She is very comfy in the car seat and loves the stroller. She will go with me anywhere in this thing. I like that you can put your drink (or baby cup) in a holder on top and put your purse, etc underneath the seat. It folds up easily when you need to put it in the trunk to travel somewhere. I never had a problem being outside on a sunny day because my little one wears a sunhat and sunscreen so it is worth the purchase for sure. I would get it for someone else too.

Don’t buy if you plan to use stroller outside, By
This review is from: Graco Deluxe Stylus Travel System Stroller – Ben (Baby Product)
I have had this travel system for a year now. It was great when baby was toted all around in his car seat, although a bit clunky. Now that my son is one and sits in the stroller by himself out of the carseat, I need a new stroller. The major malfunction is the rain/sun canopy. It is so short and tiny, it doesn’t cover him when he is sitting in the stroller. If it rains, he gets wet. If the sun is out, he doesn’t get much shade coverage. For this reason, I would never ever buy this stroller/combo again. It is not useful outdoors. It is only good if you are staying inside the entire time or using the car seat with it. It is also very clunky. So if you plan to be outdoors at all, I would go with a different brand. |
